Ilhan Omar Wins Primary, Faces Continued Scrutiny

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar won the Democratic nomination for re-election in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. She received over 80% of the votes in the primary. Omar has represented this district, known for its strong Democratic support, in the U.S. House since 2018. Her opponents included Julie T. Le, Abena McKenzie, Latonya Reeves, and Nate Schluter.

Omar emphasizes fighting former President Trump's immigration policies. Despite her popularity, she frequently faces attacks from Trump and his MAGA followers. These attacks question her citizenship, mock her Somali heritage, and scrutinize her and her husband Tim Mynett's finances.

Recently, an investigator from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was seen outside a public event Omar attended in Richfield, causing her concern. In January, a man attacked Omar at a Minneapolis event, spraying her with apple cider vinegar. Omar stated she was not intimidated. Republican John Nagel won his party's primary for the same seat.
