Bosnia and Herzegovina Approves New US Ambassador

Bosnia and Herzegovina has approved Ronald Johnson as the new United States Ambassador. The BiH Presidency gave its consent today. This approval, called "agreman," means BiH agrees to his appointment. The process to confirm Johnson's nomination is ongoing in the United States. Once confirmed, Johnson will officially begin his ambassador duties in BiH. He must present his credential letter upon arrival to formally start his term.

Johnson is a retired brigadier general from the US Marine Corps. He held various command roles. His work involved national security and international cooperation. Former President Donald Trump's administration nominated him. The proposal for his appointment went to the US Senate on June 1 this year. The US ambassador position in BiH has been vacant since early 2025. Michael Murphy's term ended then. John Ginkel currently leads the US Embassy in Sarajevo as the chargé d'affaires.
