Bulgarian Coast Crowned Europe's Most Affordable All-Inclusive Holiday Destination

As vacation expenses across Europe and the Mediterranean continue their upward trend, one destination has emerged as a surprisingly affordable frontrunner for all-inclusive breaks this year. The Bulgarian region of Burgas has officially claimed the top spot as the cheapest holiday destination, according to an analysis by the British platform TravelSupermarket for the 2026 season. This marks a significant shift, as it now surpasses Tunisia, which held the leading position last year. As Slobodna Bosna (https://www.slobodna-bosna.ba/vijest/485623/ove_godine_nece_u_hrvatsku_crnu_goru_i_albaniju_turisti_iz_evrope_navalili_na_novu_balkansku_hit_lokaciju_cijene_su_prava_sitnica.html) details, British holidaymakers are increasingly drawn to Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, particularly families and those seeking value without compromising on amenities.

The main appeal of the Burgas area lies in its extensive sandy beaches, numerous all-inclusive resorts, and a wide array of tourist offerings. These include diverse activities like water parks, various dining options, vibrant nightlife, and abundant entertainment for children. Sunny Beach, the largest and most renowned Bulgarian resort, once again finds itself at the center of this attention.

This Black Sea destination boasts nearly eight kilometers of golden sandy beaches, a multitude of hotels, and a lively atmosphere that persists throughout the summer months. TravelSupermarket data indicates that weekly all-inclusive packages for June can start from approximately 290 euros per person. During July and the peak school holiday period, these prices rise to around 610 euros.

Beyond the popular Sunny Beach, historic towns such as Sozopol and Nessebar are increasingly captivating visitors. Nessebar, in particular, stands out as one of the oldest settlements on the Black Sea, celebrated for its cobblestone streets, ancient churches, and rich maritime heritage. A prominent 19th-century windmill, located at the entrance to the old town, serves as an iconic symbol and one of Bulgaria's most photographed attractions.

In addition to accommodation, Bulgaria consistently ranks among Europe's most economical destinations for everyday expenses. Figures from Numbeo reveal that a bottle of water costs about 1.10 euros, a cappuccino roughly 2.20 euros, and a scoop of ice cream around 1.40 euros. A local draft beer can be enjoyed for approximately 2.25 euros. An average meal in an inexpensive restaurant typically costs about ten euros, while a dinner for two at a mid-range establishment averages approximately 41 euros.

Despite these attractive prices, tourism experts caution that costs can be slightly higher during the peak season, especially in the most sought-after coastal locations and beachfront hotels. Nevertheless, Bulgaria maintains a significant cost advantage over many competing Mediterranean destinations. A major surprise in this year's rankings is Tunisia's complete absence from the top ten cheapest destinations. Conversely, some traditionally more expensive resorts, including Rhodes, Mallorca, and Dalaman, have become more affordable than last year, potentially offering savings of up to 105 euros per person.

Antalya secured the fourth spot on the list of most affordable destinations, with an average price of about 700 euros per person, while Rhodes claimed fifth place, averaging 703 euros.

Chris Webber from TravelSupermarket commented on Bulgaria's remarkable advancement in the tourism market this year. He noted that the Burgas region, encompassing Sunny Beach and Burgas itself, has long been recognized as a value destination on the Black Sea. However, its achievement in surpassing Tunisia "demonstrates the incredible value it currently offers to tourists." The TravelSupermarket analysis was based on all-inclusive package bookings made between April 1st and 20th, 2026, for trips scheduled from May to September, encompassing all hotel categories, holiday durations, and traveler profiles.
