Srebrenica Genocide Victims Found at Kameničko Brdo
Investigators found human remains on Kameničko brdo in the municipality of Bratunac. These remains belong to victims of the July 1995 Srebrenica genocide.
Sadik Selimović, an investigator from the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed the discovery. Workers found the bones in an area called Bukva. Selimović said they placed three markers on the site. However, this does not confirm three complete bodies.
Teams collected the remains under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Local police and investigators joined the operation. The remains were sent to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla. Specialists there will conduct forensic tests and DNA analysis to identify the victims.
In July 1995, Bosnian Serb forces ambushed a column of Bosniak men at Bukva. Survivors say soldiers killed at least one thousand people there. Many others were captured and executed elsewhere. Search teams frequently find remains in this area. Similar excavations occurred in 2018 and in July 2024.
