UN Chief Condemns Genocide Denial, Calls for Accountability

The Secretary-General condemned the denial of the Srebrenica genocide and any glorification of individuals convicted of war crimes. He stressed that establishing accountability is crucial for lasting peace and reconciliation in the region. The UN remains committed to supporting justice. Ratko Mladić, former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, was definitively convicted for genocide and other crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His sentence was confirmed on June 8, 2021, by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.
