Višegrad 'Live Pyre' Crime: 34 Years Later, Justice Still Sought

The "Women – Victims of War" Association will mark 34 years since the "Live Pyre" crime. This happened in Pionirska Street, Višegrad. On June 14, 1992, Serbian military units trapped over 70 Bosniak civilians in a house. These included women, children, and elderly people. They were burned alive. A two-day-old baby was among the dead. Only eight survived. The victims' remains are still missing. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia called this a crime against humanity. Milan Lukić received a life sentence. Sredoje Lukić got 27 years. Radomir Šušnjar also received 20 years from Bosnia and Herzegovina's Court. The commemoration will be at the crime site. Survivors and victim families will attend. Bakira Hasečić, the association's president, will urge Bosnian institutions for justice. She states justice ensures war crimes are not forgotten or unpunished.
