BHRT Files Formal Complaint Against RTRS for Code Violations

BHRT, the public broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has filed a complaint with RAK. RAK is the Communications Regulatory Agency. The complaint is against RTRS, the public broadcaster of Republika Srpska. It concerns RTRS news programs, called Dnevnik 2, broadcast on August 14, 15, and 16, 2026. BHRT states that RTRS broke the Code on Program Content and other rules.

BHRT accuses RTRS of giving false and biased information. This information was about court cases between BHRT and RTRS. RTRS also named a judge from the Banja Luka District Commercial Court, Gordana Marić. BHRT believes RTRS tried to pressure the courts. It also encouraged divisions and tensions between the entities.

BHRT said RTRS only showed one side of the story. It did not include BHRT's point of view. RTRS used inappropriate language and messages towards judges. It made false claims about the RTV tax and court cases.

For example, RTRS said it was of "national interest." It also suggested how judges should rule. Goran Selak, Minister of Justice of Republika Srpska, also claimed courts do not act on judgments favoring RTRS. BHRT, however, states that RTRS owes it large amounts of RTV tax, confirmed by court rulings. BHRT is in a difficult financial state due to these unpaid debts.

RTRS programs questioned judges' motives. Srđan Amidžić, Minister of Finance and Treasury, suggested a political plot. He claimed "political Sarajevo" wanted to close RTRS. He said they wanted only BHRT to exist as a "state" television.

BHRT also highlighted RTRS's use of inflammatory language. This included phrases about "holy things" and "breaking teeth." BHRT sees this as raising public tensions and pressuring the judiciary. BHRT states that RTRS acted unprofessionally and abused its role as a public broadcaster. BHRT was not given a chance to respond in RTRS broadcasts.

BHRT asks RAK to quickly review the broadcasts and RTRS's website. It wants RAK to confirm violations of the Code on Program Content. BHRT requests RAK to take legal action against RTRS. Belmin Karamehmedović, BHRT's acting General Director, signed the complaint.
