Bosnian General Ramiz Dreković Buried in Sarajevo

The funeral for General Ramiz Dreković, a significant commander of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, took place today at Vlakovo City Cemetery in Sarajevo. Family members, fellow soldiers, friends, and political figures gathered to pay their respects. Deputy Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Professor Dr. Enes Ljevaković, led the service. He noted that Dreković joined the defenders without hesitation, making a huge contribution to the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all its people.

After the burial, Military Mufti Nesib-ef. Hadžić spoke, highlighting Dreković's consistent adherence to his principles even in the toughest times. Hadžić stated that Dreković stood firm when many others gave up. Bihać Mufti Hafiz Mehmed-ef. Kudić offered a prayer at the end of the ceremony.

General Dreković was born in Tutin on May 10, 1957. He completed his military education at the Military Academy in Belgrade and served in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA). When the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina began, he left the JNA to join the defense of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the war, he held top command positions. He was the first commander of the 5th Corps of the Army of RBiH in Bihać, playing a vital role in organizing the defense of Bosanska Krajina. Later, he commanded the 4th Corps in Mostar and served as chief of the Political Affairs Department of the General Staff. Dreković is remembered for his leadership in forming and guiding Army of RBiH units during the war's most challenging years, earning numerous military awards for his service.
