Munich Peace March Honors Srebrenica Victims on 31st Anniversary

The traditional Srebrenica Peace March took place in Munich on Sunday, July 5, 2026. This event marked the 31st anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica and has been held for 17 years. Many citizens, mosque representatives, and friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered. They aimed to send a clear message: the truth must not be forgotten, and the victims of genocide must never be forgotten.
The commemoration started with a collective funeral prayer for the Srebrenica genocide martyrs. Aldin ef. Kusur, the main imam of the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Germany, led this prayer. Attendees honored the over eight thousand innocent Bosniaks killed in July 1995.
After the prayer, participants began the Peace March. They carried messages of remembrance, truth, and responsibility. The march went from Theresienwiese Süd to Karlsplatz-Stachus. Participants moved quietly and with dignity, remembering the victims.
Several speakers addressed the crowd. Alija ef. Jusić, the war-time main imam of Srebrenica, shared his personal testimony of suffering, faith, and endurance. Ramiz Salkić spoke about preserving the culture of remembrance and fighting for truth. He emphasized that remembering is vital to prevent future atrocities.
Aldin ef. Kusur reiterated that remembering the Srebrenica genocide is a moral and religious duty. He stressed that memory is about future responsibility, ensuring history does not repeat itself. He called on young people to learn and oppose genocide denial to build a peaceful society.
Izet ef. Bibić, a key organizer and main imam of Medžlis Bayern, highlighted the duty to protect truth and foster remembrance. He stated that Srebrenica is a permanent trust for all who believe in justice, and its denial must not be allowed.
The Medžlis Bayern, under Izet ef. Bibić, has organized this march for years. Their dedication keeps the memory alive among Bosniaks in Germany. The event has grown into a major commemoration in Bavaria. This year's march reaffirmed that Srebrenica is a lasting warning to humanity. It compels us to speak truth, teach respect, and fight hatred and injustice. The memory of Srebrenica's martyrs commits us to protect truth and build peace, ensuring such an event never recurs.
