Zenica Mourns Five Mountaineers Lost on Elbrus
Zenica recently held a collective funeral for five local mountaineers who tragically died during an expedition to Russia's Mount Elbrus. Alma Okanović, Denis Okanović, Meliha Čaušević, Nermin Talam, and Almir Krivdić lost their lives on July 25. A large crowd gathered at Zenica's Čaršijska džamija to pay final respects.
Mufti Mevludin ef. Dizdarević led the service. Prominent officials attended, including BiH Presidency members Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić, Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić, and Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumović. Families, friends, colleagues, and mountain rescuers joined the mourners. A deep sadness filled Zenica as citizens shared the families' grief.
Earlier, a commemoration took place at the Bosnian National Theatre. The five climbers were part of a seven-member team; two members survived the incident. Their passing leaves a significant void. After the funeral, they will be interred at the Prašnice City Cemetery.
