Kostajnica Mourns Beloved Philanthropist Ibrahim-beg Kulenović

Ibrahim-beg Kulenović passed away on July 11, 2026, at 5 AM in a hospital in Zadar. He was 84 years old, born on March 18, 1942. Kulenović was a highly respected philanthropist and benefactor of Kostajnica, often compared to Sultan Abdu-l-Aziz in his generosity. His death brought great sadness to his community.

Kulenović was known for uniting people and helping those in need, regardless of their wealth. His name is a significant part of Bosanska Kostajnica's history. After the Azizija Mosque was destroyed on June 12, 1992, Ibrahim-beg was essential to its reconstruction. He dedicated two years of his own time and effort to rebuild the mosque, helping to buy materials and raise the minaret. He also quietly supported the hungry and the poor for many decades.

In his later years, Ibrahim-beg spent summers near Nin in Dalmatia. There, he built a home with two small minarets, which reminded him of his love for Kostajnica. His wife, Milja, was a faithful partner in all his efforts. He inherited his strong work ethic from his father, Mustafa, a famous barber, and his mother, Paša.

Ibrahim-beg's career began in factories in Kostajnica before he moved to Germany in 1968. He built a good reputation there, earned wealth, and became a BMW shareholder. Despite his success abroad, his heart remained with Kostajnica and the Una River. He donated his own land for Piralo beach, planted fruit, and funded many projects for children to enjoy the river. Ibrahim-beg Kulenović showed that a person's true greatness comes from what they give to others. He leaves a lasting legacy of kindness.
