Omiš Fire Investigation Underway as Injured Remain Critical

A large fire recently hit areas near Omiš and Lokva Rogoznica in Croatia. Firefighters are still working to secure the area, especially above Omiš, even though the main blaze is under control. An investigation has started to find out how the fire began. Croatian state prosecutors said the fire began in a small forest next to a road in Lokva Rogoznica. Investigators are gathering camera footage and other evidence.

The fire burned about 1,000 hectares and caused one death. Many people were injured. Forty people received treatment at KBC Split, with 14 needing hospitalization. Eight people are still in life-threatening condition; four are in Split hospitals and four in Zagreb hospitals. Three adults in Zagreb are on ventilators. A 17-year-old girl is now stable after two surgeries. Over 500 people had to be rescued from the sea during the fire's peak. Emergency services and citizens helped in these rescues. Fire crews remain on site to prevent new fires and clear damaged areas. Authorities will now assess the full damage. A police investigation will continue to determine if the fire was an accident or caused by human actions.
