Srebrenica Commemoration Plans Advance, Eight Victims Ready for Burial
The Organizing Committee met in Potočari. This was their second meeting. They are preparing for the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. The anniversary is on July 11. The committee approved a program for the events. This includes burying identified victims from July 1995.
Hamdija Fejzić leads the committee. He stated that eight identified genocide victims are ready for burial this year. Another 37 people are identified. But their families have not yet agreed to burial. This is usually due to few remains being found. Fejzić asked families to give their consent. This would give victims a marked resting place.
Preparations for the "Marš mira" (Peace March) are also underway. More than 1,600 people have registered. Suljo Čakanović leads the march sub-committee. He said this is a good number for this time of year. He expects many participants. Officials are working to fix any problems on the march route. They want to ensure it is safe for all.
