Nedzad Grabus Elected as New Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Professor Nedzad Grabus is the new Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The electoral body chose him during a meeting at the Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Sarajevo. The body included assembly members, Islamic leadership officials, muftis, deans, chief imams, and committee heads. They voted by secret ballot. Grabus will take his formal oath and receive the official document of appointment on November 15 at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque.
Grabus was born in 1968. He finished Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa in 1987. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo. He also studied philosophy at the University of Sarajevo. Over his career, he worked in the Islamic Community leadership and taught at several universities. He served as a professor in Sarajevo and lectured in Ljubljana and Vienna.
From 2006 to 2021, Grabus served as the Mufti of Ljubljana and leader of the Islamic Community in Slovenia. During this period, he led the major project to build the Islamic Cultural Center in Ljubljana. In September 2021, he became the Mufti of Sarajevo. He has published many academic books and articles. Grabus speaks Arabic, English, and Slovenian.
